Arts and Health

We work with a number of organisations to support their clients by using art and creativity as a tool for improving wellbeing. A great deal of our work supports people living with mental health illnesses, substance misuse and disabilities. We believe that arts and creativity should be accessible to all and take pride in constantly developing how we ensure this is possible. By using holistic approaches to health and a person-centred approach, we create a safe, comforting environment where people can share common interests. We strongly encourage the use of creativity to benefit health and wellbeing and are a member of the Culture, Health and Wellbeing Alliance as well as the National Criminal Justice Arts Alliance.

Me, Myself and Art – with Live Well Kent and Medway – Commissioned January 2021 to 2026

Supported by Live Well Kent and Medway through Creatabot, a group of Medway residents came together for the first time in 2021 to create unique artworks as a response to their personal journeys of health and wellbeing. You can view the first exhibition held at the Halpern Pop Gallery in 3d below. Creatabot is now in the 3rd year of running the programme which is part of Live Well Kent and Medway’s Community Mental Health and Wellbeing Service and has been commissioned for a further 2 years (until 2026).

Langley House Trust – The Shrubbery

This photo is of a felted tree made collaboratively with residents at The Shrubbery, Langley House Trust, Strood. It ended up being made over a period of years between 2019-2022 due to the pandemic. It immortalises the creativity and memories of some of the people who have lived there and even some who have sadly died. Some residents made their own leaf and some asked me as an artist to create a leaf with their chosen colours. Some of the leaves have also been made by the amazing support workers, some of which are agency workers so this provided an activity which supported their own personal wellbeing as well. Needle felting can be very therapeutic and is really good for helping people achieve a state of flow. This large piece, around 80cm x 130cm was mounted on wood and covered in perspex for longevity.
