The Whitstable Biennale Artist Development Programme are looking to get to know artists who are working in North Kent so they can work with them to support their practices.
Over the next year Whitstable Biennale will host a series of events which will combine showcases of work by North Kent artists working with film, sound or performance (selected by open call) with presentations from invited speakers from local artist-led initiatives in Kent and the surrounding areas.
The events will be open to artists from across the county to come to meet other artists, see new work and find out about nearby organisations. They will be a chance for North Kent practitioners to show work to peers and curators, gain feedback, form new networks and find out more about opportunities to work with organisations who are currently commissioning artists close by.
The first showcase is on 21 February 2019 in the lecture theatre at UCA Rochester (10 mins walk from Chatham Station).
Organisations confirmed for the first event are:
– TACO! (Thamesmead)
– Well Projects (Margate)
All artists applying that meet the criteria will get to showcase their work. Whitstable Biennale will fit as many artists into the first event as possible and will work towards further evenings for those that don’t get to show work in February. Each artist will be paid £50 for their contribution, (inclusive of travel).
Works must be maximum 10 minutes long and artists must be living in north Kent (Medway, Swale, Dartford or Gravesham) to apply.
To take part by showcasing your work, please send an expression of interest which includes your address / postcode in North Kent, a short statement about the work you’d like to show and your practice and a weblink to the work to email@example.com by 31st January 2019.
Those who wish to attend but do not want to show work can just turn up on the day.
*Whitstable Biennale will have a limited amount of technology at the venue, which should enable single channel video and stereo sound playback. There is also a small, carpeted stage for performance. If you have any queries about the work you would like to present please contact Whitstable Biennale with a short description of the work.
