Abigail Steer is an illustrator from Gravesend, Kent who focuses most of her work on Manga based art and similar. I thought everyone would like to know some more about her so I got in touch.
So Abigail, how long have you been an illustrator for now?
Though I have enjoyed drawing all my life I have only started putting real “passion” into my work in the past eight years.
How much of what you do has been self-taught?
I used to read tutorials on the internet when I first started, this helped a lot! But as I have progressed I haven’t needed to look at them half as much as I used to.
Have you had any help or guidance from a mentor?
My friends are my mentors, they have always helped by seeing and advising me how I can make my art better.
Who is your favourite local artist and all time favourite artist?
My favourite local artist is Natasha Sexton, her bags and jewellery are fab. Now my all time favourite is a tricky one since there are so many amazing artists out there, but I guess it would have to be Monet, since he was the first person to inspire me to draw.
Where do you like to work most?
Somewhere comfortable like my sofa.
What would you really like to learn in the future?
I would like to learn all sorts of different Japanese crafts, there is so much to learn in that field!
Can you recommend a creative website you love?
Thank you Abigail for telling us a little more about yourself!
