The Pentagon Community Fund – Up To £2000 – Open To Projects In Chatham – Closes 12th March 2017

The Pentagon Community Fund is now open to projects in Chatham!

Through the Pentagon Community Fund, Project Dirt are offering up to £2,000 to community projects and social enterprises that have a positive social and/or environmental impact and which are located in the local Chatham area. There is a total of £15,000 up for grabs, all to kick start your local community projects that will improve your neighbourhood.

Types of Projects – who can enter?

Community Projects: Any non-profit making organisations can apply including charities, not-for-profit organisations, Community-Interest-Companies and also informal community groups with their own bank accounts. Individuals cannot apply for their own personal projects.

Social Enterprises: Entrepreneurial business ideas with a social or environmental mission, are also encouraged to apply.

All applications (which don’t take long) need to be submitted by midnight on Sunday 12th March. You can find the application guidelines here.

Free funding workshop for music and family arts

Dulcie Alexander and Kevin Grist, Relationship Managers for the Arts Council, will be presenting a free workshop and funding surgery on Tuesday, June 24th at the Brook Theatre, Chatham.

You’re invited to meet them and find out more about Grants for the Arts funding and how to apply, in this music focused session.

It’s a Creative Network event held jointly with Ideas Test, who will also be on hand to discuss applications for the special Family Arts callout they’ve recently instigated. This is an opportunity to apply for a Small Experiment grant to generate high quality, innovative family friendly activities during the national Family Arts Festival, which runs from October 17th to November 2nd. Funding with approaching deadlines

Musical  instrumentsHere are a couple of funding opportunities that might be of interest.

Funding for youth music making activities (England)
Youth Music, the UK’s largest music charity, has announced that its grant making programme has re-opened for applications. Through its funding programme, Youth Music makes grants of up to £250,000 to support projects that provide music-making activities for children and young people, especially those young people in challenging circumstances. Youth Music will fund non profit-making organisations committed to music-making activities for children and young people up to 18 (or up to 25 if they have special educational needs, disabilities or are in detention). Youth Music aims to support music making activities principally in out of school hours such as during weekends, holidays as well as in breakfast and after schools clubs. Youth Music understands that programmes may need to begin in school hours especially if the proposal involves encouraging first time participation in music. To help with this, Youth Music will consider applications for programmes where up to 25% of the time is spent in school hours. The proposed programme should aim to encourage children and young people to eventually make music outside of school hours.

Arts Council England Strategic Touring Programme (England)
The next closing date for grant applications to the Arts Council, England Strategic Touring Programme is the 2nd May 2014. The £45 million Strategic touring programme provides in excess of £15,000 for projects that encourage collaboration between organisations, so more people across England experience and are inspired by the arts, particularly in places which rely on touring for much of their arts provision. The funding is available to both organisations and individuals. Partnerships, networks and consortia can also apply. These can include:

  • Promoters
  • Producers
  • Artists
  • Agencies
  • Companies
  • Marketing or audience development specialists
  • Local authority representatives or any other kind of organisation or individual.

Artist Sarah Maple Launches Major Solo Exhibition

Artist Sarah Maple is to hold her first major solo exhibition at the Aubin Gallery, Shoreditch, London, from the 9th of February to 9th March 2012.

Sarah Maple’s exhibition “It’s a Girl!” takes a slightly controversial, but tongue in cheek look at what it is to be a woman and Muslim in the modern day. The work on show takes a more questioning look at traditionally accepted identity, gender and religion whilst revealing the young artists unique talent.

Currently living in Sussex, UK, 27 year old Sarah Maple has displayed work in various exhibitions in New York, Canada, Israel and Europe. Inspired by her own Muslim background, Sarah Maple uses photography and paintings to get her personal message across about subjects that have become socially acceptable and brings attention to the faults in this thinking.

  • People can unfollow you / unfriend you for silly reasons!

  • Facebook and Twitter can be linked, so that you only post something once.

Pinterest is an easy way to create an online portfolio.

WEEBLY is a great easy way to make a FREE website that can be linked to your domain name.

POP UP SHOPS

Dan Thompson has put together the Empty Shops Network – which is a great resource for people wanting to run a pop up shop. The Pop Up Business of Dummies is brilliant. A PDF is available here:

Pop Up Shop people:

Are willing to embrace the temporary nature of an opportunity, and agile enough to adapt and change as the opportunity does.

Always have an eye on the future, using a pop up to inform or inspire another plan or project, or to prototype a new business. They are interested in the long-term sustainability of their work.

Funding

The two main bodies for funding continue to be your local council and the Arts Council. Out of the two, your local council are likely to be more helpful.

MEDWAY PEOPLE: There is an artist resource centre inside the Visitor Information Centre in Rochester High Street. Inside the room there are folders packed with information about applying for funding with lots of different organisations, its brilliant!
