The Affordable Art Fair returns to London for 2011 to provide more opportunities for collectors to find reasonably priced art to add to their collection. But the Affordable Art Fair isn’t just about buying art. The Education Programme offers a whole host of free activities to give you the chance to get involved.
What is MADE?
An independent fair with affordable alternative handmade creations. From artist’s books, zines and small press to lovingly crafted/knitted/cut/stamped/pressed products made by hand.
Pete Molinari from Kent has traveled the world playing, writing and recording his music. He speaks to Creatabot and tells us a little more about his background and what inspires him.
In the 16th century your average town saw a huge change, during the reformation many churches closed and this saw them taken over and changed into alternative venues including theatres and printeries. Spare Place is a collaboration between the Empty Shops Network and Open Sussex. The Empty Shops Network have been recycling empty shops for ten years and provide the tools, skills and knowledge to make this information openly available.
Kevin Proctor speaks to Creatabot about how he came to be involved in film production and became director of the web series “Self Centered”. Kevin Proctor is the ideal example of how to work your way up the ladder within media using your own initiative. Hopefully by learning more about Kevin’s past this can help to inspire others who would love to work in production.
Applications are invited from artists to participate in a mini-residency on LV21, a lightship moored off Gillingham Pier in Kent.
Taking place over three days in March and April, artists will collaborate in responding to the space, generating new work and conversations about practising in public. On the third day, the public will be invited to come on board and see the work made, and join in the conversation.

In 2009 I had the “privilege” of queuing for 5 hours to see Banksy’s take over at Bristol museum. I was really pleased to have been able to see the exhibition but when an underground artist becomes a worldwide household name it leaves us craving fresh underground art.
Enter “The Fastener” who’s real name I shall leave you to try and find out. “The Fastener” tags various locations with knitted graffiti leaving behind random knitted objects and art pieces. Labeled by the artist as “Guerilla knitting” this is a fresh type of artwork that is something to keep a close eye on as well as being inspirational.
Some of the best creative talent from Kent will be exhibited during February and March in No. 1 Smithery: The Gallery – a new contemporary exhibition space of the highest standard, designed to attract national and international touring exhibitions to the region for the first time.
Stephen Walls is Creative Director of Tomorrow People – a Digital and Marketing Communication consultancy that aims to help promote creative people and their businesses. We spoke to Steve to find out some more about Tomorrow People.
The Deaf Cat studios are set over three floors forming a small, creative community and there are currently 3 studios available for hire.
Ryan John is a singer and song writer who currently lives in Chatham, Kent. He writes from home and has a home recording studio set-up, but also records in Camden, London at Zay-D’s studio, who are the production company that produces some of Ryan’s material.
Victoria Wainwright is an all round creative in Kent that specialises in illustration. I asked her some questions so we could find out a little more about her.
The first web episode of “Self Centered” starring Eastenders star Kellie Shirley has just been released online. The series is written by Kent writer Steven Keevil, Directed by Kevin Proctor and Produced by Tamana Bleasdale and follows the life of a young depressed actress who seemingly has a new purpose in life given to her when she wakes up in a rehab clinic in the future.

Not many artists today are able to put their whole creativity into their music, but I was given the chance to meet someone who has worked hard to be different.
Usually found busily sewing away in the Deaf Cat cafe in Rochester, Zara Carpenter is an inspiring craftswoman who leads the way for many creatives. Maybe by learning some more about her we can draw even more inspiration…
Sian Bostwick is a jewellery designer in Rochester, Kent with incredible skill and talent. Her work, inspired by fairytales and fantasies, truly please the eye and each piece is beautifully crafted in its design. The “Year In The Life Of” photography project returns for 2011, this time also extending to include Canterbury and Sheppey. The project aims to capture a year in the life of each area and present 365 photographs, one for each day of 2011.
